Month 2-Aaron

Stats-
Weight- 12 lbs 10 oz. (60%)
Length- 23 1/2 in. (75%)
Head- 16 in. (90%)

Month 5

He was talking to Nanna like crazy yesterday as he dragged out his cooing for a really long time. Too cute. I tried to capture it on video, but he would not perform.
Aaron grabbed his foot today when we were outside. (Aug. 18)
Aaron is loving his lips. He loves sucking on his bottom lip and making ducky lips. He has also starting making farting noises with his lips.
What would we have done without his jumperoo? He loves it so much. He just jumps up and down while kicking his legs out like a ballet pose. We decided we will be okay if he wants to be a ballerina, but we will not steer him in that direction.

Month 6

-Rice cereal! He loves it. He figured it out the second we put the spoon toward his face. He opens his mouth nice and wide to eat the cereal. He also takes his bib in his hand and wipes his own face. Lucky us!

-Aaron is rolling over like crazy. He loves rolling over as soon as you lay him down onto his stomach. He lifts his head and shoulders up real high to look around. He is still struggling to sleep. It seems like he wakes up at 11am and 3am almost every night.

-When you hold him in your arms, he wants to lift his head backwards so he can look at the world upside down.

-When you lay him on the changing table, he loves to grab his feet. He even put his foot in his mouth.

-He has figured out rattles. He loves to take them and shake them back and forth to hear the sounds.

-He loves his jumperoo so much that when he is putting weight on his legs in your arms, he jumps like he is in the jumperoo.

-Aaron discovered a higher range of sounds in his voice and he loves rattling them off. He also like talking back and forth to anyone through his words of Ahhhhhhhhh.

Month 8 & 9

-We took Aaron on his first camping trip. He loved the hiking in the Bjorn. He got a little sunburned which I feel really bad about it. Hopefully the pink will go away soon.
-He really likes to use his hands as feet.
- He started throwing a fit when bath time is over. He looks back at the ducks and cries when we take away the last toy.

-He learned he can shake his head from side to side. He really starting changing the pitch of his voice as he says dadadada.
-He loves flipping the toys upside down and playing with the wheels.
-He enjoys sitting in the front of the grocery cart and in a high chair.
-He smiles all the time!! I have needed that after the first 4 1/2 months.
-He seemed fairly disinterested in Santa. He did not even look back up at him.

Month 10

Well you are still not crawling, but I am trying not to worry. Dad says you are like a pharoah because you prefer to be carted around and fed your grapes. You are dragging your body around everywhere with those strong arms.

You are very intruiged with spinning the knobs in the kitchen.
You love banging around the wooden spoon.
Kisses from dad make you giggle.
You light up when mom picks you up from daycare. You flap your arms back and forth like a bird. Then you give the pouty lip just to show me that you are glad that I have saved you.
-You love to throw your toys over the side of the bathtub and then get up on your knees to peer over the tub to see if you can see them again. You like to do the same with food and your sippy cup from the high chair.
-You say dadada all the time and now you are starting to say it with a whisper and even a screech.
-You waved for the first time. Ms. Streeter came over and I told you to wave at her. Then I made the comment that I felt like you should be able to do that by now. With a few seconds delay, you started waving at her. It was super cute!

Month 11

It looks as though your version of crawling will not be very traditional. You can move your arms and legs but you drag your tummy with you. Why rock on all 4s when you can just drag your tummy along.

You have started mimmicking a lot with your arms. You are banging on your high chair and raising your arms up in the air.
You are very curious about opening and closing cabinets and about what is in the kitchen cabinets.
-You are discovering new things like the ghetto blaster in the living room.
-You have started pulling up like crazy. You are even taking a few steps while pushing the lawnmower. Your legs are so stiff that it looks funny when you walk.

Month 7

-Bathtime is so much fun for Aaron now that he can sit up. He loves sucking on the bill of his rubber ducks. Kenzo also walks up to him and licks his hands while he is in the tub. We splash him with water from the cup and he giggles.

-Solid foods- He has eaten butternut squash, zucchini, yellow squash avacado, and sweet potatoes, mum-mums.
-Today at Target Aaron was waving his own hand at himself. He loved watching his fingers move up and down.
-We went out to eat and he was waving the coasters in the shadow and loving it.
-Sterling and I had to let him cry some in the middle of the night because of his frequent wakings. We decided to get the sleep sheep back out and put it between the two of us to help us sleep.
-We just went and took 6 month photos at the Arboretum. He loved eating the hay and dirt. He lunged forward to pick it up and put huge clumps in his mouth. I preferred him having the pacifier so he could just play and not eat it. He was a champ through an almost 2 hour photo session.
-He was a cute little one eyed monster for Halloween.
-He loves his wrists and his fingers.
-Eating- He is eating 5 to 6 oz. bottles.
-Clothing-He is wearing size 3 diapers and 9month clothing.

Month 17

He learned the word hi, car, bird and ball. Bird sounds a lot like dog with a dah.

I told him that daddy was on the phone and he went to the door to find him. He was really sad when he found out that he was not there and started crawling.

He loves walking. He just makes laps around the house because he is a walker now. It is a whole new house to him.

He just started laughing so had when we do this little piggy.

They told us he loves to dance during music time at school.

He has really gotten into dancing along to Raffi. I can just say the words Raffi and he runs over to the CD player to turn it on.

-Everytime we get home, he loves taking his push toy out to the driveway. He is really good at turning it around when we ask.

Month 20

Aaron has so much personality!

He is very into pointing out to us every time an airplane comes by. He points up to the sky and says apane. Then, he proceeds to say bye-bye. He loves to say bye-bye to everyone. He is also loving saying words like oside, nack (meaning snack), bubble, all-done, all gone.

He is so sweet every time he says Momma and Daddee.

Month 21

~Your dad and I continually say that this is such a fun age! You are so full of life and curiosity. You love to hide in the closet until we come to find you. You love to be tickled and laugh so hard!

~You are loving Christmastime. Every morning you request that we turn on the tree, the garland, the fireplace, the bell and Pandora on the TV for Christmas tunes. It is too cute. You point out bird on the tree and you think our Elvis ornament looks like daddy. You have attempted to open one of your gifts, but only once. It will be a sad day when the tree has to leave.

-Your least favorite part of Christmas would have to be Santa. We tried with our Realtor, Charles as Santa. You were arching your back and screaming so much that I could not put you in his lap. You are a stubborn little one. I tried, but you ended up sitting on my lap as I sat on his leg. You waved at him across the room, but did not want to get on his lap.

-You just keep getting cuter! Tonight Uncle Brandon asked you where your shoulder was and you gave him a shoulder pop.. It is where you bounce one shoulder up and down while making flirty eyes. Too funny!

-When we get you undressed, you love stroking your belly up and down to feel how soft it is. You have also made lots of efforts to find your private parts during each diaper change.

-Everyday since CHristmas has been taken down, you say "All gone tree" and "All gone Bell".

-Today, 1/8/12, you said bye-bye daddy for the first time unprovoked.

-You have loved getting into the squatting position and jumping with two feet together.

Month 22

-Today, 1/24/13, you woke up and your dad and I both realized you had little specks of freckles around your eyes.

-You loved cheering your dad on at soccer today. You said, "Go Daddee" and "More daddy"

-You are loving having us turn on every light in the house, making sure every window is open and doing things over and over again.

-You are constantly copying what we say to Kenzo by telling him, "you go owside"

Month 12

- Tonight during dinner you were chowing down on an avocado. You left some of the leftovers on your hands. Kenzo decided he wanted to lick them off. You cracked up while he finished off your avacado on your hands.
-You are using everything to pull up on, including our legs.
- We were at your Nanna's house and you called out and looked up and said Mama. It was so touching to my heart. I love you so much little guy.
-You also started crawling like a big boy on all 4s. Great job little buddy!

You were hilarious at your birthday. You looked back and forth at Mom and Dad as everyone was singing you Happy Birthday. You had a blast playing at your water table with your friend Kaitlyn and your Cousins.

Month 13

-You imitated the b sound when I said bath.
-You are very into the yelling.
-You love riding in your stroller and waving at everyone like you are the homecoming king.
-You still clap your feet when you are excited.
-We gave you your last bottle before bed and your cried when you saw the sippy cup instead of a bottle.

Month 15

-Aaron was just crawling down the hallway with a giant plastic spoon that he found in the kitchen hanging from his mouth.

-I love it when he sits at the table and twists his toe in the circle.
-He rocked his first plane flight to Jacksonville, Florida. He did not fuss a single time. He loved putting the window up and down. He liked pulling the tray table up and down.

2 of the funniest comments from the trip were: A lady at the airport told me he looks like his name could be butch. Another lady told me he had small feet, but that was the only thing small about him.

He was the ring bearer for Alexis and Curtis. Sterling held his hands as he tried to walk assisted down the aisle. He did great and stayed up until 10:30 at the wedding. He loved the fireworks and the red velvet cake.
-He loved riding the trolley around Savannah, Georgia.

-We decided we needed to get a lot stricter because he did not let us have much sleep on vacation. He would stand in the crib screaming and jumping up and down until we would pick him up. Not cool!

He just started pointing at everything and giving cute babbles along with it.

-He started saying the word uh-oh.

He was obsessed with the toilet. Anytime mom turned her back, he crawled into the bathroom to stand up by the toilet and try and splash in it.

-He figured out how to turn on the shower.

June 26th-He took a few steps for the first time.
-

Month 16

-He met Nana's puppies for the first time. He was very gentle and enjoyed petting them until he realized he could push the mini cooler all the way across the house while walking behind it. Forget the puppies!

-He just discovered the diaper champ behind the chair. It is too cool to push up and down.

-We went to pick him from the church nursery and Aaron gave a karate chop in the air with a "ya" to greet his dad across the room.

-He started cleaning his high chair with a paper towel.

-He loves using his push walker to cruise all the way around the house. He especially loves to be chased.

-He started mimicking the words, whoa.

-Mom was doing the dishes, you came over to her and started pulling on her legs. She asked if you wanted food or to be held. You signed the word food!! This was a huge step in communication.

-We went over to your friend Max's house and you were riding in his Cozy Coupe car. Max tried to get in with you. You yelled at him with an Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, to let him know that you were riding in the car. No words but your yelling seems to mean something.

-He loves to be chased while he is pushing his push toys around the room. He laughs so hard when we catch him.

-While teaching him belly, I left his shirt up. He tries to lift mine up.

-Monday, July 23rd you took your fake cell phone and pretended to talk on it.

-You are taking lots of steps now at the end of July. We call you a walker!

-Mom was feeling pretty sick and you came over and gave her a kiss out of no where. So sweet and caring of you!

-You say the word dah all day long. It means dog.

Month 23

Aaron has recently been saying, Go daddy, Go Mama, Go Aaron. It all started when he was cheering on Sterling at his soccer game.

Month 25

April 23, 2013- Aaron peed on his little frog potty for the first time. He also did it once a day for two more days. We are not even potty training! Rock on Aaron!

Month 24

Aaron was famous yesterday. His picture of duckface when he was 11 months was the cover of the etsy facebook page. He received 7,000 likes and over 1,000 shares.

We just went and spent 5 days in Houston. He had such a blast with the cousins. He sounded like the lady from Austin Powers as he would call the cousins from across the house, Abby, Abbydale, Unter, Ahye.

You are starting to count! You have two eggs in your hand and you say, two ehhs. (eggs)

You still love listening to and dancing with Raffi.

You are really funny trying to hop on one foot. You often look like you are trying the arobesque in ballet.

You love opening the garage doors and you get a huge grin on your face when we let you leave your carseat in the driveway to sit in our lap when we pull in to open the garage. You use the phrase, "open nana's garage."

You call your grandpa's Pee Paw.

~You did so well climbing at the park today! You were so cautious but loved going up and down all the steps to the play equipment. You made sure to hold on to the rails and only go one foot at a time.

~ You love to babble. You have recently been saying NaNa. I think that it means that you want something. You stand at the closet and say it because you want the crayons down to color.

~Tonight we ate at Banditos with Katy, Adrienne, and Jordan. You took your pacifier and dipped it into the queso. It was pretty funny!

Month 28 for A and Month 3 for L

We are working on saying yes ma'am.
Me: "What do you say when mommy asks you to do something?"
Aaron: "No!"
He is right. That is exactly what he says. We have a long way to go.

Thursday, July 25th we have an evaluation for Lincoln for physical therapy for torticollis in his neck. He loves laying his left cheek on the ground and looking right. We need you to look the other way too.

-Lincoln is cooing and talking. It is so cute!

If Lincoln is tired I can just swaddle him up, put a pacifier in his mouth and he puts himself straight to sleep. Glorious!

Lincoln started loving his little bouncy seat. He uses his right foot to kick the little toy and make the music go off. You are only waking up once in the middle of the night, but we would love for you to sleep through so mommy can go to sleep.   -

Month 26 for A and Month 1 for L

-Sterling's email:
After a full day of labor, we're thrilled to announce the arrival of our SON, Lincoln Shepherd Smith. Born 9lb, 13oz and 21.75 inches long. Shannon was a trooper and is doing great.

Lincoln will be in the NICU for his first 48 hours. He is having an issue with one of his lungs that needs to be monitored. The doctors do not seem that concerned and neither are we. If you'd like to come visit tomorrow, feel free, but please know that you will not get to see the baby. Actually, we haven't even gotten to hold the baby yet... despite what the photo implies.

Couldn't be more thrilled about this guy! Aaron will be a great, big brother and I'm already looking forward to the trouble they'll get into. Should be quite a journey!

Julie, please forward this to the Wednesday group.
~Aaron's language has exploded. He is talking in complete sentences and phrases. He says things like, What is that?

We had a boy!! His name is Lincoln Shepherd Smith. He weighed 9lbs 13 oz at birth and was 21 3/4 inches long. We were induced at 7am and he was born at 4:55pm. Dr. Ryder threw him onto my chest after they said, it's a boy. He's a big boy! They brought in a nurse practitioner after 10 minutes of him grunting and she observed him for another 10 minutes. They decided to take him to the NICU on Thursday around 5:20pm for a pneumothorax. He had an oxygen hood for about 8 hours. Once on room air, we were not allowed to hold him until Saturday morning. I cannot imagine the people that have to wait months to hold their baby. 1 1/2 days felt like an eternity. Getting to hold him for the first time was amazing! He was so calm and sweet.

Aaron's favorite phrase to say to Lincoln is: Hi Lincoln, How are you? Are you good?
He also loves calling him buddy and wants to hold him.

~Lincoln is the sweetest little baby. He hardly cries and spends a lot of time in quiet alert. He is almost one month and starting smiling 2 days shy of his one month birthday.

~We have to really watch it because Lincoln is a squirter with his pee.

~Lincoln is still the most precious baby! He had his first road trip to Austin and San Antonio and he was a champ. He got a little fussy in the car, but as long as we held him for a second and made sure he was fed, he was great. He loves looking around big eyed.

~Aaron likes to cross his eyes and say, "crazy eyes"

~I told him once not to pee on the carpet if his diaper is off. He now says, "no pee on the carpet, no pee on the floors, etc."

Aaron also said, "I fart. Daddy farts. I love farts."

Lincoln is cracking up when mommy says, "whapa!" and puts his arms up over his head.

Lincoln is completely addicted to TV if it is on. It seems to be on a lot more since it is football season and Aaron watches Curious George once a day.

Lincoln tried out the jumperoo and is not quite sure what to think of it yet. You are not immediately in love like Aaron was.

You know it has been hot a long time when...
Aaron: What is that?
Me: Those are called long sleeves.

Aaron asked for a napkin after he needed to spit out the chicken bouillon cube he stole from the pantry.

11 kids came over to play and Aaron walked into the room and shouted, "What a Mess!"

Lincoln has really started saying nananan and yayayaya.

Lincoln likes to take his lovie and put it over his face.

Month 3 & Month 4 for Aaron

Things we love about Aaron
  • He grips the bathtub on both sides to make sure he does not fall down.
  • He started playing with a ducky in the bath tub.
  • He sits in his lamb chair with such concentration as he tries to grab for the green lamb above. If he catches it, he pulls really hard on it.
  • His new game is for us to pull his hands as he uses his neck muscles to come to a sitting up position. He gets huge smiles and grins when we do this. We say, "here we go, here we go, you did it!"
  • I always tell him, "I know you, you're Aaron Avery Smith" and he gets a huge smile on his face.
  • Some of our regular songs include: Wheels on the bus, Old McDonald, Days of the Week, If You're Happy and You Know it.
  • He experienced the exersaucer for the first time and loved it. He laughed as it bounced up and down and was excited about the toys.
  • He is starting to sleep with his rabbit lovie. We are hoping it will allow him to sleep longer.
  • He is kicking his legs vigorously when laying on the mat and when in the bath tub.
  • He started sucking on his bottom lip.
  • He loves sticking his tongue out.
  • He has rolled from stomach to back 3 times this month.
Eating
  • We are moving him up to 5 oz. when he is fed from a bottle.
Sleeping
  • We have done some sleep training and it was pretty brutal. It has been getting much better so I am feeling very blessed for that. He only got up one time last night (Aug. 3) at 3am and then slept until 8am. We are so grateful for that. It will be tough when I go back to work, but I am sure I can use the early hours to get stuff done.
  • He slept for 8 hours on the second to last night before his 4 month birthday! That was a record!
We have taken 3 trips so far in his 3rd month. They have been really fun, but the car rides have not been. Thank goodness for the keys that the Woods are letting us borrow. He is great with those for a little bit until he gets mad at them and pulls them really hard while crying.
Amarillo to meet his Great Aunts and Great Grandma
Houston for Amy and Rob's wedding, but Aaron spent time with cousins, Aunt Holly, Aunt Lizzie, and Gran
Austin to see his future A&M roommates and an overnight at Aunt Katy's house.

I wish we could have gotten this on video, but Aaron discovered that his head can move 180 degrees. I was holding him while we were trying to eat dinner and he was looking out the window. Then he turned his head from the window to look at Sterling. He turned back to look out the window and then realized he could turn it to look at Sterling. He kept doing it as he was fascinated that it would move all the way to both sides. So sweet.
